KidsCan gets a bit of Luck

New Zealand music legend, Jordan Luck, joined the battle against child poverty opening his Westmere home to KidsCan supporters and ambassadors for a backyard BBQ on Friday night.

Guests enjoyed a kiwi BBQ on the deck while Jordan Luck and Joe Walsh performed acoustic versions of some of The Exponents most well known songs.

Nathan King also got in on the act, getting up and performing some Zed classics with Donald Reid performing other kiwi hits.

"It's a worthy cause. There is a real need for raincoats, food, and other KidsCan programmes in New Zealands low decile schools", says Luck.

The BBQ marked the start of the KidsCan Trusts 'In Our Own Backyard' campaign.

The campaign will run until the end of October, the main objective being to raise money to help New Zealand children living in poverty.

The central event of the campaign will be The KidsCan Big Backyard Bash in Queen Elizabeth square, Britomart, on Friday October 17.

Over 400m² of Readylawn will be laid down in order to create one of the biggest urban backyards that New Zealand has ever seen, with outdoor furniture, a picket fence and a kiwi barbecue.

Iconic kiwi musicians including Jordan Luck, Nathan King, Donald Reid will be performing during the event as well as newcomers Anna Coddington and Emily Jones.

The KidsCan Big Backyard Bash will run from 12-3pm and Auckland CBD workers are being encouraged to go down and support KidsCan through a gold coin donation or by signing up to the In Our Own Backyard Club and giving $10 per month.
