It’s Business Time For Corporate Rowers

Media Advisory for immediate use 20 November 2008

It’s Business Time For Corporate Rowers

Christchurch based businesses will go stroke for stroke at Kerr’s Reach this Sunday to find out who is top of the corporate rowing ladder.

The 2008 Meridian Power Rowing Regatta features a series of 500m races and involves sixteen teams of eight rowers.

The businesses competing in the event are Ngai Tahu Property, Christchurch City Council, Fletcher Construction, Christchurch Casino, Christchurch Polytechnic, Fulton Hogan, Lincoln University, Christchurch Engine Centre, Isaac Construction, Apollo Projects, Cavell Leitch and Meridian.

Teams have all endured a ten-week training programme to get them in shape for the demanding event. The programme included two indoor rowing competitions on erg machines where teams could test their speed and endurance against their competitors.

The Christchurch Engine Centre and Ngai Tahu look like the two teams to beat following the erg competitions.

Another team that raised a few eye-brows at the indoor competition was the Cavaliers – from the Cavell Leitch law firm. Each team is required to have two members of the ‘opposite sex’. Most teams chose to race six men and two women.

The Cavaliers are doing things a little differently. They have entered a team of six women and two men and early form shows they will be more than competitive on the day.

The first race at Kerr’s Reach begins at 2.00pm on Sunday, 23 November. The final is expected to begin at around 4:30pm.
