Sallies’ Christmas CD goes ‘Miraculous Platinum’

10 December 2008

Sallies’ Christmas CD goes ‘Miraculous Platinum’ in just two weeks!

Although it’s not “official platinum”, the Salvation Army’s first ever Christmas CD – “It’s a Wrap” – has topped 15,000, the normal level for calling a CD “platinum”.

“Maybe we should call it ‘miraculous platinum’ because this is so amazing. We only launched the CD two weeks ago. Not only has it cracked the 15,000 barrier, but we are so certain that the 30,000 first run will be snapped up before Christmas that we’re pressing another 5,000 copies this week. The proceeds will definitely help us make life a bit cheerier for many Kiwis who need a bit of help,” says the Salvation Army’s Territorial Public Relations Secretary, Major Robert Ross.

The CD has been available for a $5 donation at all Countdown, Foodtown and Woolworths supermarkets since 24 November. The CD includes carols and contemporary Christmas songs in various styles (including Jazz, Big Band, and A Capella), and features the incredible Musical Island Boys – Porirua’s World Champion barbershop quartet.

“It’s the perfect stocking-stuffer and has been flying off the shelves. Our customers have really got stuck in to supporting the Sallies, and it’s looking like we’ll run out of stock. So if you want one, get in quick,” says Dave Chambers, Progressive’s General Manager of Supermarket Operations.

The top five selling stores are Countdown Northlands and Countdown Church Corner in Christchurch, Woolworths Queensgate in Wellington, and Auckland stores Foodtown Mt Eden and Countdown Westgate.
