Harley Rally To Be Held In Wellington
Harley Rally In Wellington
February 12th 2009
The blinding properties of chrome: The Harley Davidson DON’T MISS event of the year at the Events Centre and Frank Kitts park February 20th to 22nd.
Over 1000 chromed-up Harley-Davidson’s hit Wellington in February as the capital hosts the 19th New Zealand Harley Owners Group national rally.
Wellington’s waterfront will echo as 3 kilometres of bikes, show-shined and gleaming arrive at TSB Bank Arena. Known as the largest motorcycle club in the world, Harley-Davidson owners are here to enjoy our city, our scenery our hospitality and an amazing event. The rally venue will host 1700 Harley riders, pillions and friends from all over New Zealand, international members and representatives from Harley-Davidson.
The three day event brings millions of tourist dollars into Wellington and Wellington Free Ambulance will benefit directly from Harley riders as the selected beneficiary of rally donations. The Wellington Chapter is a strong supporter of local charities, the latest fun raiser in December raising $8000.00 and two truck loads of toys for the Salvation Army on its annual Toy run
In planning for three years, the Wellington HOG (Harley Owners Group) rally is non-stop entertainment and features nine Kiwi bands, headlined by Jordan Luck of the Exponents, plus stalls, food, a ‘casino’ (proceeds to Wellington Free Ambulance), the traditional thunder ride, Buell Gunners, a rally first - street sprints, New Zealand and Australia’s top Harley Davidson stunt rider, bike show and technical seminars. There will also be a number of surprise entertainment acts.
On Saturday from 10am the event is open to the public until 5pm. They can experience the action on Jervios Quay, view the bike show whilst enjoying live music and mixing with a 1000 plus Harley Owners in Frank Kitts Park.
Thanks to local movie makers the TSB Arena changes to Main Street USA, a theme echoing Harley’s origin in mid-west America. Main Street will feature bars, casino, live bands, stalls, food and the opening spectacular. Billed as the DON’T MISS Harley Davidson event of the year, the rally will be the largest in New Zealand, a fun-packed event and yes it will be noisy and yes you will need sunglasses. The glare from a thousand chromed-up big bikes can burn out your eyeballs.
