Touring New Zealand Live in November 2009
On Sale Monday 1 June

For the first time in New Zealand, spend an evening with Michael Parkinson, live on stage. Relive the best of his guests and their greatest moments on screen

Multi-awarding winning media personality Michael Parkinson has entertained audiences across New Zealand, Australia and the UK for over 40 years; from journalist to television and radio presenter, Michael is an international celebrity in his own right. Now, the legendary chat show host shares his greatest moments, live on stage, supported by video clip highlights from his career, in his one man show. Parky - The One Man Show will commence his tour on 3 November.

Sharing with the audience his love of music and sport, Parky - The One Man Show is a charming, humorous account of the events of Michael's fascinating life.

Following the successful releases in 2008 of his autobiography "Parky - My Autobiography" and CD 'My Life in Music', Michael now reveals his own story live on stage with the same witty, easy manner that has kept audiences captivated across generations.

In an intimate conversation with the audience, Michael reminisces about some of the most memorable moments of his celebrated career. Supported by video clips, his favourite music, as well as readings from his own work, Michael eloquently weaves the enthralling story of his life as a renowned journalist.

Having interviewed more than 3,000 of the world's most famous people over 800 shows Michael is celebrated for his entertaining style and exceptional insight. He has sung with Bing Crosby, danced with Billy Connolly and Will Smith, played a love scene with Bette Davis, and had his knee touched by Renee Zellweger, Sandra Bullock, Madonna, Gwyneth Paltrow, Kylie Minogue and Dame Edna Everage, to mention but a few sex symbols who have felt irresistibly drawn to his left knee.

"I am absolutely thrilled that UKTV will present Michael's inaugural New Zealand live tour, further extending our long-standing and incredibly successful relationship. When UKTV launched on SKY TV in November 2003, we brought Parkinson back to primetime and our viewers applauded. Today our audience continue to be delighted by his engaging and intelligent style,' said Tony Iffland, General Manager, BBC Worldwide Channels Australasia.

From humble beginnings as a miner's son, Michael has risen to be one of the greatest journalists and influential entertainers of our time. Michael was awarded a knighthood for services to broadcasting in the 2008 New Year's Honours list.

Born in a Yorkshire pit village, Michael spent most of his youth sitting in the back row of the local cinema and dreamed of marrying Lauren Bacall, Veronica Lake, or anyone else who would have him.

He eventually ended up at the BBC with a talk show titled 'Parkinson' that ran for many years and made him an instantly recognisable face. The programme won The National Television Award for Most Popular Talk Show four times running.

Throughout his television career he has also broadcast extensively on radio while remaining a prolific writer and busy journalist. In 1998 Michael won awards for his work in three different branches of the media - a feat thought to be unique. He won a Sony Radio Award for Parkinson's Sunday Supplement, was named Sports Writer of the Year at the Press Gazette British Press Awards and Media Personality of the Year by the Variety Club.

In 2007 Michael decided to retire from his talk show and focus on writing his autobiography, which was released in Australia and New Zealand in 2008. 'Parky: My Autobiography' was one of the top five celebrity memoirs of 2008 and has sold over 85,000 copies in hardback in Australia, making it the largest selling autobiography in Australia for a non-Australian. The book sold over 700,000 copies worldwide. "Parky - My Autobiography", published by Hodder & Stoughton, will be released in trade paperback on 1 June.

'My Life in Music', released by Warner music, is a stunning collection of the music that has provided the soundtrack to Michael Parkinson's life. With 40 classic tracks chosen by Parkinson himself, from Frank Sinatra to Nina Simone and Michael Buble, this compilation celebrates the styles of music and performers he is most passionate about.

A captivating story told by a fascinating man - Parky - The One Man Show is a sensory delight of performance, music and video that will enthral audiences of all ages.
