del Toro fans don’t think the book is dead
del Toro fans don’t think the book is dead. Long live the book!
Fans of Hollywood director Guillermo del Toro are expected to brave the winter chill and turn out in their hundreds to a bookshop on Willis Street tonight.
The Oscar Award winning director is in Wellington to film an adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Hobbit” and his stay here coincides with the release of his first novel, “The Strain”.
Publishing house HarperCollins approached Unity Books about hosting a signing session after the book’s launch at Weta Cave last month proved so popular with del Toro’s fans that the signing queue took five hours to clear. Weta spokesperson Magnus Hjert says “Fans were waiting in a line down the street to get their book signed. Everyone waited so patiently, and it was cold!”
Phone lines at Unity Books have been busy all week with queries about tonight’s signing. “People are looking forward to connecting with Guillermo del Toro,” says William Dewey from Unity Books. “We’re delighted that Unity Books can provide a space for that to happen”.
“The Strain” is the first volume in a trilogy, co-written with thriller writer Chuck Hogan, about a vampiric virus that invades New York.
The book signing starts at 6pm tonight. Unity Books is located at 57 Willis Street, Wellington.
