[September 2nd 2009] MySpace
today announced the winners of the 2009 MySpace
Choice Awards. An opportunity for MySpace users around
the nation to vote for their favorite NZ artists, the
MySpace Choice Awards were comprised of six
categories : ‘Comedy’, ‘Hip Hop’, ‘Indie’,
‘Pop’, Rock, ‘Roots’, ‘Unsigned’ and ‘Your
Choice’. This year’s competition saw a groundswell of
support for home-grown talent, with around three and a half
thousand votes cast.
Nominated artists were selected from the MySpace Top 500 and comprised of a mix of popular signed and unsigned bands. True to MySpace’s roots supporting independent and emerging artists, the nomination list also featured unsigned Kiwi bands.

homegrown talent and the vitality of the community of
artists and fans on MySpace . With over 30,000 NZ artists on
MySpace, there’s no shortage of phenomenal talent and
MySpace is delighted to recognize this flourishing music

Winners across each category receive a MySpace Choice Award and as the artist with the most votes overall, Midnight Youth receive a MySpace promotional package on the MySpace NZ Homepage, Music Channel and Kiwi Hub and an editorial promotional package on MySpace in New Zealand and Australia.
