Orewa Art Gallery Celebrates 2nd Birthday
A birthday is always cause for celebration, and none more so than a business milestone during a recession. monmo.Gallery and Framing at the northern end of Orewa is weathering the downturn in the economy by staying focussed on it’s core business. This second birthday is something to be proud of as the combination of the recession, winter months and the reconfiguration of the waterfront Boulevard Project along the Hibiscus Coast Hwy has seen some businesses pack up and leave.
A fabulous place to while away an hour or so,
the large upstairs gallery space in Moana Court is easily
found by following the flags and signs with the large Orange
Flamingo on them, directing the visitor to the stairwell
outside Kaizen Café.
monmo.Gallery represents the
very best of New Zealand art and craft from the Far North to
Invercargill. Original artwork under $5,000 was the business
mandate, and to make all work accessible, the gallery warm
and friendly and to demystify the art world. Owner Monica
Moriyasu says, “Most People coming into the gallery admit
they don’t know anything about art, but they know what
they like. My reply to this is “that’s all you need to
know!” ”.
Monica and General Manager Warren Brown
are both photographers and some of their work is visible
within the gallery space. They enjoy participating in the
Auckland Festival of Photography each year and challenging
viewers to consider photography as an art form. The response
to the digital photos printed onto canvas has been
overwhelming. This is a relatively new art form in NZ it
seems, and many people are just discovering that they can
create artwork using their own photos in this way.
monmo.Gallery can produce customers digital photos onto
canvas as large as the photo file will allow. These make
wonderful gifts as well, and with the low prices available
many visitors will be considering these for the coming
Festive Season.
Alongside photography you will find
mixed media, oils and acrylics on canvas and board, fabric
art, fine art prints, etchings and many other media. Fine
crafts include solid silver jewellery, jade and bone carved
pendants, porcelain figurines, pottery, glass and rugs. A
framing shop within the gallery is kept busy with outside
artwork and framing the art purchased from the gallery.
monmo.Gallery has one of the largest selections of European
framing stock on the North Shore.
November 1st is
Birthday Celebration Day, so go along to monmo.Gallery and
Framing and share in the celebrations. Specials are
available for purchases that
day.
