Kiwi Teaches The World About The Perfect Pour

Today, New Zealander Avril Maxwell was named the 2009 Stella Artois® World Draught Master in the 13th annual event.

Representing New Zealand by competing against 32 countries Avril managed to perfect each step in the 9 part pouring ritual and was judged on her precision, technique and presentation skill by a panel of international judges.

The competition was fierce, with a record number of contestants from all around the world vying for the top honor at the World Draught Master Championship, which was held at one of New York’s most famous buildings on 5th Avenue, The New York Public Library.

As the Stella Artois World Draught Master, Avril will spend three months traveling to over 20 countries as the global ambassador for perfection and the Stella Artois® 9-Step Pouring Ritual. “I am overwhelmed at this incredible honour to be named the Stella Artois World Draught Master,” says Avril.

This year New York fashion designer Tim Hamilton created the unique winner’s trophy. He was commissioned to create a trophy that embodied the ideals of the competition – passion, perfection and craftsmanship.

Nigel King, New Zealand marketing manager for Stella Artois®, comments “We are so proud of Avril. She took on the world's best and showed us her talent in pouring the perfect Stella Artois. This is the second time in three years that New Zealand has won the World Draught Master title, we must be doing something right with our Stella Artois!”
