Governor General's Colleges XI

Cricket Wellington Media Release

13 November 2009

Governor General’s Colleges XI to take on Wellington Wanderers on Sunday

His Excellency The Honourable Sir Anand Satyanand and his wife, Her Excellency Lady Satyanand, will be in attendance for the fourth annual match between the Wellington Wanderers Cricket Club and the Governor General’s Colleges XI at Wellington College on Sunday 15 November.

The aim is to give young cricketers a chance to play against former Wellington and New Zealand players.

General Manager of the Wanderers Evan Gray said “The Wellington Wanderers Cricket Club was formed over sixty years ago. Their aim is to play matches against College and Youth elevens using a mixture of young, old, Test, First-class, senior and social cricketers. The Wanderers are currently playing around twenty matches per season.”

The Governor General, His Excellency The Honourable Anand Satyanand, is a life long cricket supporter. He has also lent his name to a match played at the beautiful Willows CC in Christchurch where the Willows play the Governor Generals XI which is in essence a South Island Secondary Schools XI.

“Young cricketers are very lucky to have the very genuine support of His Excellency the Governor General as he uses his influence and love of the game to encourage and foster college cricket,” said Gray.

“These matches are competitive but played in the spirit of the game.”
