Brother Christmas Spectacular 2009

November 18, 2009

Wellington region families are set to be wowed by top Kiwi entertainers at the Brother Christmas Spectacular in Fraser Park, Taita, next month, which promises to be a dazzling evening of music, dancing, fun and fireworks.

The free community event, being held on Saturday December 5, will showcase an impressive line-up of internationally and nationally renowned celebrities and performers.

Concert-goers will be encouraged to sing along, dance and to really give voice to their Christmas spirit with guest artists such as internationally renowned Wellington tenor Ben Makisi; alternative pop band, Supermodel; Darren Watson and the Real Deal Blues Band; the 35-strong Mission choir; children’s supergroup the Funky Monkeys; local young dancers and the YNI Dance group; and the Cradle Rockers Big Band Extravaganza.

The event kicks off from 7.30pm and concert-goers are urged to get there early and to bring blankets and picnics. The evening will run for around two hours and conclude with the fireworks.

Co-organiser Darryn Gadd of Hutt Impact said this was the first year the event has been held in Fraser Park. Due to the runaway success of last year’s event at Avalon Park, where 8,000 people were expected but 20,000 turned up on the night, a bigger crowd is being planned for this year.

Darryn said the bigger Fraser Park, on Taita Drive and Percy Cameron St, would cater for the expected 50,000 people, with its easy access and plentiful parking.

“This night is all about community; it’s about bringing people together to enjoy some amazing locally-grown music and dance. And best of all, thanks to our sponsors, it’s totally free.”

“Our line-up really does offer something for the whole family and will appeal to all ages and musical tastes. It’s an opportunity to relax and enjoy a picnic and get into the festive spirit.”

The local community will also benefit further as volunteers will collect donations during the night to help Ignite Sport, the Billy Graham Charitable Trust for the Naenae Boxing Academy and Team Naenae.

A liquor ban will be in operation throughout Fraser Park and adjoining side streets. Glass is also prohibited from the park grounds.

The event is being sponsored by Brother International, Hutt City Council, Pelorus Trust and Hutt Mana Trust.
