Library To Showcase School Photographic Finalists
Library To Showcase School Photographic Finalists
The
top ten finalists in each of the nine categories from the NZ
Schools Photographic Competition 2009 will have their work
displayed at the Central Library from 12 December.
The exhibition, featuring 90 framed A3-sized photographs on Level One of the Library, is part of the national tour of the competition. The images on display are by all category place winners and seven finalists from each of the nine categories in the competition.
The main theme for 2009
was “Celebrate” allowing entrants much room for
individual interpretation. The sponsored AgResearch Science
Section theme ‘Agriculture: From the Paddock to the
Plate’ encouraged many thought-provoking images along with
a few with humorous intentions.

“The competition
provided students with an opportunity to interpret the same
theme from various perspectives during their process of
taking photographs,” says Carolyn Robertson, Manager
Libraries and Information.
“The result is a collection of the diverse ways of seeing and presenting the theme, with some truly extraordinary outcomes. We hope the exhibition will encourage members of the public to discover and enjoy the massive talent our students have,” says Ms Robertson.

The AgResearch School Photo Competition is part of the NZ Schools Photographic Competition 2009, under the umbrella of the NZ Schools Visual Arts Charitable Trust based in Hamilton.
The competition was open to all primary, intermediate and secondary school students in either black and white or colour photographs. Winners were chosen for their originality and their creative interpretation of the themes.
Prizes included digital cameras, laminators, canvas reproductions, paid work experience, a scholarship studying Media Arts at WINTEC and the iconic NZ Schools Visual Arts Charitable Trust trophies.
Canterbury finalists at the exhibition include Lincoln Primary, Our Lady of the Assumption, Hampstead School and Springfield School and several home schooled students.
Exhibition

double-sided black felt boards) of the 10 finalists from
nine categories.
