Double Award Helpings For The Food Show, Auckland

At a glittering ceremony at Sydney’s Ivy Ball room, among 250 of the exhibition industry’s top leaders, North Port Events won two prestigious 2009 Exhibition and Event Association of Australasia Awards for Excellence, rounding off a stellar year for the group.

The EEAA awarded North Port Events’ Food Show Auckland with the prize for Best Consumer Show under 10,000sqm, as well as the award for the Best New Zealand Show – both of them achieved for the second year running.

North Port Events CEO, Dona White, who was at the gala dinner to receive the awards, says, “This award is recognition of the passionate food industry we have in New Zealand. We’re a small country with a big reputation for culinary confidence, quite a change from when the show began a decade ago. It’s great to be competing against the best Australian shows and to come out on top.”

Record nominations were received for this year’s Awards for Excellence and judging was tough due to the high calibre of entries: “This year’s judging process was the hardest to date as the quality and number of entries continues to improve each year,” said Margaret Crichton, General Manager, EEAA.

“The industry is recognising the importance of the Awards for Excellence and how they help in marketing and employee motivation – to be recognised formally as a winner, is great for both business and brand exposure,” Crichton explains.

The hospitality industry was one of the hardest hit in the economic woes throughout the year, but there was no sign of the ‘R’ word at this year’s Food Show in Auckland: “Home entertaining is now more popular than ever, and budding foodies turned up in record numbers – 5,000 more than the previous year.” explains White.

North Port Events is a specialist exhibition company with over a decade managing New Zealand’s biggest and best shows, including The ASG Parent & Child Show and its newest trade show venture Fine Food New Zealand – due to launch in June 2010. Fine Food is a partnership between North Port Events and Diversified Exhibitions who have run Fine Food Australia for more than 25 years.

“The Food Show provides small and big food-related companies, chefs and hospitality services with a chance to showcase themselves to a large and engaged audience and we hope with our success we have been able to give our exhibitors a much-needed boost in an otherwise quite difficult trading year,” says White. “This award is our thanks to them for a decade of support.”
