Tauranga Grandma Believes In Santa Again

Tauranga Grandma Believes In Santa Again

A Tauranga grandma has had her faith in Santa restored after winning a $102,837 share of last weekend’s Lotto Strike prize, according to NZ Lotteries’ Chief Executive Todd McLeay.

The woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, says it hasn’t quite sunk in yet, but has made this Christmas a time to remember for all her family.

“I believe in Santa again now, but don’t quite believe this win is real! We’re putting most of the money away, but have splurged a bit, and will spoil the grandkids a bit more this year,” she says.

The happy winner didn’t find out until Sunday that she’d won, as they’d been away and asked her mother to check the tickets while she watched the draw.

“Mum checked our tickets and realised we’d won, but didn’t want to call us because she doesn’t like phoning mobiles as they cost too much money!” laughs the woman.

The winning ticket was bought at Mount Paper Power in Mount Maunganui, and is worth $102,837 – a third of the weekend’s Lotto Strike prize. The other two tickets from Te Kauwhata and Lower Hutt are yet to be claimed at the Wellington office.
