Huge animal line-up for Big Gay Zoo Day

Huge animal line-up for Big Gay Zoo Day

Auckland's first-ever Big Gay Zoo Day will be a chance to go 'where the wild things are' and also enjoy a concert from Anika Moa and Sola Rosa.

This Saturday (13 February) at Midday, all are welcome to meet outside the souvenir shop in the front of Auckland Zoo, where a fun and fascinating afternoon is in store exploring the park. Then at 6pm the concert begins at the zoo's band rotunda, with Anika Moa, Sola Rosa, and perhaps even some of the noisier monkeys and lions on backing vocals.

"Join us as we catch up with our mates the Sumatran Tigers, the Red Pandas, some real Kiwis and of course Burma the elephant. These guys are animals," laughs Matt Akersten of GayNZ.com, who is organising the event.

The standard entry price for the zoo is $19 ($14 for students and seniors) but to stay after 6pm for the concert, attendees need to book $30 tickets online at the Ticketmaster website.

"Remember to slap on your sunscreen, and wear a green top so we can spot each other as we go around the park," invites Akersten. More information about Auckland Zoo is available on its official website.

The Big Gay Zoo Day is part of Auckland's new OurFest LGBT festival.
