Celebrating unsung community heroes

Media Release                         6 April 2010

Celebrating unsung community heroes

The annual search for New Zealand's most deserving unsung community heroes has begun again.

The New Zealand Herald P&O Cruises Unsung Heroes programme has rewarded ten community champions over the past two years - sending them on a cruise holiday as a thank you for their unsung heroics.

In addition, inspiring stories about the lives and leadership of nominees help to acknowledge the commitment of the many thousands of Kiwis who contribute to the community sector.

"Kiwi communities run, largely, on the work of volunteers, and this is one small way we can acknowledge their efforts and give something back," says Carnival Australia and New Zealand CEO Ann Sherry.

Nominations for this year's programme are open until the end of May and can be made online at www.unsungheroes.org.nz or by posting in a nomination form published in The New Zealand Herald.
