What RDU will be doing throughout NZ Music Month

What RDU will be doing throughout NZ Music Month

Our focus will be on local CHCH music this year. RDU already plays on average 40% NZ music, we’ve been pushing homegrown music from way before NZ music month even existed! We tend not to blow our own trumpet about this, we just get on with the job of supporting NZ music.

So why not get out and support some local acts during NZ music month, here’s a bunch of show’s we think you should come out and support… RDU is proud to be associated with the Dux, and a few other gig’s we’re excited about!

RDU will be backing these gigs at the Dux...
Jdubs Friday 7th May www.jdubs.co.nz

News from the Breakfast desk...
We’ve got a cool new competition on Breakfast With Spanky! Every Monday we’ll be playing ‘Where in the World is Morgnuts’ thanks to the good people down there at Globe Café on High Street. All you have to do is listen in to the clues and try figure out where Morgnuts is – it could be a country, town, planet, building… but what’s the prize you ask? Well, only THE most delicious breakfast you’ll ever eat! Every winner will receive a voucher for 1 Eggspresso which is a coffee of your choosing and a kind of eggs Benedict but on a massive hash brown so make sure you’ve got your appetite. Me and Spank will be heading to Globe on Thursday to sample this tasty sounding creation and we’ll report back to you.

Thanks for everybody’s feedback about our very first (and not sure if we’ll ever do it again) Soul Food session with top chef Jonny Schwass on last Friday’s show. You may have heard him make the perfect Caesar salad for Spanky live in studio – while spinning some funk/soul tunes! Turns out we WILL do it again now, due to all the positive feedback. So Jonny will join us at the end of every month with his crate of funk and food, endeavouring to make Spanky the best in well, whatever he wants for breakfast. I’ll post the recipes if I’m allowed as well, so keep an eye out on the Breakfast With Spanky blog for that.

The Album of the Week
NZ Music Month, now, its May, and May is Music month...

The Midnights began ‘back in the day’ when a group of friends who had met at Wellington High School one by one made their way up to Auckland.  Used to jamming together, the group realised they shared a distinct taste in blues, jazz, soul and roots reggae.  After giving their first performance late 2002 the group quickly rose from playing the notorious local haunts of the City of Sails to eventually travelling the country to perform, spreading the word and sharpening their live sound at a number of festivals and events...we at RDU are pleased to present the debut album release from these Journeymen of the NZ dub/reggae circuit, stay tuned to RDU Drive to hear and win the new album!

Tune in next week for our second NZ Music Month Album of the Week...Lewis McCallum!

A brand new giveaway on the Thursday Drive show with the Smokers Delite crew...
The Smokers crew are excited, a highly excitable bunch already this new giveaway takes things up a notch for them...hell it takes them up a couple of notches even! From this Thursday the Drive show will have a $50 Timezone Powercard to give away every week for the next few months, awesome news for these game crazy boys who are insanely jealous of the winners, already there has been talk from the Smokers crew of challenging people at the Columbo St Timezone centre to a game of Tekken 6, win and you get to keep your Powercard, lose and...well lets just say that it will be a long night at Timezone for the lads! Maybe, then again maybe not!

Glorious at the Forge Theatre...and its pretty damn Glorious alright...
Now we at RDU do not normally do ‘theatre reviews’ and definitely I am no hard-core theatre goer, but this show really does demand that we make a bit of a deal about it.

So... here we are , making a big deal of the new show that our friends at The Forge have started, Glorious is the name of this show, and although the seats at the Forge can be difficult to sit in the second half of the show grabbed a hold of the mind and its obsession with moving from cheek to cheek... this is a story of love conquering all, of childhood hopes and dreams and is delivered with solid performances from both actors, the stunning Amy Straker (who has the most amazing costumes – big ups to costume designer Deborah Ward) and Keith Adams who plays Jimmy who brought some of the audience to tears with a scene that ripped our hearts out and left them dangling in the faux moonlight of the stage lights, intense. Go get some...

Snowboarding...ladies...
Don’t forget that Quests are having a special gathering of the snow ladies at its High St store tomorrow, should be good, if your a lady – still time for you to pre-register for the evening by either emailing chch@queststore.co.nz or drop into the shop and pop your name down.
