Solid Gold Fm Radiothon Tops $50k For Kiwi Kids

Last weekend’s Solid Gold FM Radiothon for Variety – The Children’s Charity raised over its target of $50,000 and the funds will support Kiwi kids who are sick, disabled and disadvantaged to reach their full potential.

“We were truly amazed and humbled by the generosity of the New Zealand public – children donated their pocket money, businesses chipped together to make $100 donations and even the Prime Minister phoned in with a donation,” said Lorraine Taylor, CEO of Variety – The Children’s Charity, which is currently celebrating its 20th annivrsary in New Zealand.

“It would not have been possible without companies from around the country that donated items for a fantastic Trade Me auction and the brilliant volunteers that manned the phones taking pledges all weekend.

“The Radiothon was a great way for Solid Gold FM to support Variety and help them help Kiwi kids. We are proud to be involved with Variety – The Children’s Charity and do our bit to help raise funds to make a difference in the lives of Kiwi kids. There are so many people to thank for their involvement with the Radiothon, but we ouldn™t have been able to raise the phenomenal amount of more than $50,000 without our listeners who made donations over the weekend “ to yu we say Than You, said Hayley Gallop, National Promotions Manager of Solid Gold FM.

Ms Taylor continued:
“Solid Gold’s DJs were joined by celebrities such as Shane Cortese, Jayne Kiely, Ewen Gilmour, Suzy Cato, Hilary Timmins, Shortland Street’s Jacqui Nairn and Constable Bryan and Bobby on air for a fun weekend for a very good cause – the money raised will fund Variety grants such as insulin pumps for diabetic children, specialised rikes for hildren with mobility issues, laptop computers and other items which are not funded by other organisations.

“The effort from the Solid Gold team was phenomenal –in addition to their on-air efforts, Solid Gold teams around the country organised a number of community fundraising events and DJ Macca undertook a fundraising road trip around the North Island participating in a number of fundraising dares including shearing sheep.

“Thank you to everyone who contributed towards the Radiothon – your assistance will help Kiwi kids to reach their full potential,” concluded Ms Taylor.
