Lotto Winners Going To Dogs, Cats, Parrots, Horses

Lotto Winners Going To The Dogs, Cats, Parrots And Miniature Horses

The results are in, and the luckiest New Zealand pet by a landslide is the cat, with 39% of big Lotto winners having a feline friend, says NZ Lotteries’ Chief Executive, Todd McLeay.

A survey of big winners’ pets has just been completed, with cats the clear favourite, closely followed by dogs.

“Our new Lotto campaign features a heroic dog called Wilson, so we were inspired to find out how many of our many winners had pets and what the favourites were, so we went out and asked some of our big winners to see which pets proved luckiest,” said Mr McLeay.

“51% of our big winners have at least one pet while 32% have more than one – and 21% are shining examples of harmonious households with mixes of different species under the same roof.

“While it may come as no surprise to hear that cats and dogs are the most common pets owned by Lotto winners, however there were some more interesting pets in the results – rabbits, a rat, chickens, a chinchilla, and even a miniature horse!” said Mr McLeay.

Labradors were by far the luckiest dog – 19% of the dogs owned by Lotto winners were the popular breed. One winner even reported that they received their new Labrador puppy the day they also won $1.3 million on Lotto – making him the luckiest pet in the country.

The trusty household moggy is by far the most common breed of cat in Lotto-winning households, with 41% of cats owned by Lotto winners in this category.

And of the winners without pets, one winner reported “two children being more than enough”, while another counted “one cuddly husband” as her pet.

Meanwhile, Lotto’s newest hero, Wilson the dog, was launched to the New Zealand public this week. Wilson was last seen lost at sea, safe in his floatation harness and clutching his owner’s winning Lotto ticket between his teeth. Tune in to TVONE, TV2, TV3, C4 or Prime at 8.35 pm on Sunday 3 October to find out how Wilson gets on.
