Thelowdown.co.nz Records Rockquest Track

Thelowdown.co.nz is proud to announce they are recording the winning track from the Smokefree Rockquest’s lowdown best song award.

The song, which was written and performed by 16-year-old Aucklander Massad Barakat-Devine, is about a vampire of an ex-girlfriend, and the intensity of breaking up.

“The vampire metaphor is about expressing how much the girl has hurt the other person. More importantly though, the other person acknowledges at the end of the song they will be fine without them. It’s just one of those things you have to learn first-hand about.”

Manager of thelowdown.co.nz, Dylan Norton, says the song was a good choice for the award, with a relatable theme for teens beginning to experience relationships - and breakups.

“We want to support music as an outlet and encourage teens to find a means that helps them. We were really proud to be involved with Smokefree Rockquest, and even prouder that we could continue to support Massad through recording the song.

Relationship breakups are difficult and often lead to people feeling down and depressed, we want them to know thelowdown.co.nz is there to support them with this or other challenging issues they face”

The Lowdown Best Song Award is given to the individual or group who demonstrates skill in songwriting at each Regional and National Final.
