Old Hollywood Glamour Helps New Kiwi Mums
Old Hollywood Glamour Helps New Kiwi Mums
The Sacrifice.Love.Beauty campaign is being launched this week to celebrate the beauty of motherhood.
Twelve real mums from across the country are being made over as 1950s glamour girls and photographed by 2009 Canon Photographer of the Year Bret Lucas, for a bright, fun calendar.
The women are winners of a competition, run by Sacrifice.Love.Beauty founder Bex Lipp.
“I wanted to help mothers feel better about themselves. The sacrifices we make as mothers are huge, focusing on the needs of our families who we love unconditionally, but we often forget to see the beauty in ourselves. All mothers are gorgeous and I want to celebrate them all.”
Five dollars from the sale of each calendar with go to the Mothers Matter Family/Whanau New Zealand Trust whose website www.mothersmatter.co.nz provides advice and support for mothers with Post Natal Depression and their carers.
“We’re not a high-profile charity with a well-known corporate sponsor, so raising awareness of our work can be difficult,” says Mothers Matter trustee and author of Finding Hope, Louise Frame.
“Having experienced postnatal depression myself I understand the huge effect it can have on both mothers and their family. No one should feel alone in what they are going through. The more awareness we can raise, the less alone we will feel.”
