Young Playwrights Take the Initiative in the Forge

The Court Theatre brings six theatre practitioners of the future together and new writing to the stage in the second year of THE YOUNG PLAYWRIGHTS’ INITIATIVE, with a public showcase of three new short plays entitled TRIUMVIRATE to be staged in The Forge on December 14th and 15th.

Three emerging writers were invited to The Court Theatre to experience being a part of a professional theatre company and develop three short plays in collaboration with three up-and-coming directors over the ten-week course.

In 2010 TRIUMVIRATE will feature:
Knowing and Knowing by Anna-Claire Hunter, directed by Lucette Hinden.
Featuring Kathleen Burns and Sarah Campagnolo.
On a tenuous car trip to Nelson for a friend’s wedding, Lydia and Cat discover there is more to each other than meets the eye.

Shaking Things Up by Brendon Bennetts, directed by Erin Harrington.
Featuring Eli Matthewson and Zara Cormack.
Justin and Hannah have finally gotten it together and gotten together. Unfortunately for them they couldn't have picked a worse night.

Dead Man Talking by Deborah Kerr, directed by Dan Pengelly.
Featuring Dan Bain, Torum Heng, Sarah Kelly and Jon Pheloung.
Name: Oscar "Scar" Davison. Date: 31st December 2010. New Year's Resolution: Find out who just killed him.
THE YOUNG PLAYWRIGHTS’ INITIATIVE consists of a structured writing curriculum with formal teaching and supervision and the opportunity for the playwrights to observe and participate in every aspect involved in the making of theatre. Each writer is then “paired” with a trainee director with an interest in new writing. By the end of the course, participants have first-hand experience of the script advisory process, how to nourish the writer/director relationship, and the practicalities of developing a work from page to stage.
