Auckland artist, Aaron McConchie is taking over Durham Street East as part of the Auckland Fringe Festival. Keen art lovers better be quick to catch a glimpse of this ever changing art installation as it will only be present for 12 hours on Saturday 26th February.
Constructed entirely from corrugated cardboard and Makedo fasteners, the installation entitled "The World Around" will be constantly evolving during the day with Mr McConchie being on-site, re arranging, removing and creating additional pieces of the installation throughout the day.
Viewers are invited to walk through and experience the work as if it were part of the everyday cityscape. Mr McConchie is drawing on both historic and contemporary elements of the lane and surrounding environs to create the subject matter for the installation. Approximately half of the installation will the pre constructed and the remaining half will be created on the day.
When asked about the premise behind the work Mr McConchie commented, "All to often we traipse around the city and miss the little things that make our city great. Durham Street East is one of them. By creating this temporary installation I hope the people that experience the work will look at the city with fresh and more inquisitive eyes".
