BDO Announces 2011 Schedule for Xmas

Media release

BIG DAY OUT ANNOUNCES 2011 SCHEDULE FOR XMAS

Anyone still left wondering whether a 2011 Big Day Out ticket is the perfect thing to ask for this Christmas after today’s publication of the January 21st event’s hour by hour “grid” must have rocks in their head, declared Elf PR from the North Pole today.

“If your brains are tuned to rocking hard, you need a ticket to the Auckland Big Day Out,” said Elf PR. “We are expecting a big upturn in ticket demand on our hotlines and a lot more visitors over the age of 15 to our various shopping mall and department store Santa Interface Stations over the next few days.”

Why the excitement at the Pole? One glance at the gird shows what a truly incredible Big Day Out is looming this year.

Kicking off at 10.30am on a high energy blast of grungy punk pop fun from one of the local bands of the year, Street Chant, the Big Day Out threads its way through early afternoon highlights like the Deftones on the Orange stage, and Die Antwoord in the Boiler Room before getting seriously busy from late afternoon.

Anyone concerned about a Deftones / Andrew WK crossover will be pleased to see AWK following his first Green Stage set with a 4.45pm Lilyworld appearance. You might want to catch both.

The curious will have time to check out plenty more local band highlights including the debut of Kody and Bic on Essential before starting to make plans for how to get around the rest of the day.

Things get fantastically heavy in the moshpit zone of the Orange and Blue main stages as the evening progresses from Shihad’s General Electric set to Iggy and the Stooges – not to mention the promised audio visual spectacle from Rammstein and Tool.

On the “hill”, the Green and Essential stages hit their groove early evening with the bluesy growl of the Black Keys before Edward Sharpe and Primal Scream’s Screamadelica set prepare the crowd for Nick Cave’s Grinderman finale. A nice slot in there for locals The Phoenix Foundation too.

An insane Boiler Room run is certain to hold its crowd suspended in a party frenzy from early firestarters Ratatat to the afore-mentioned zeffers, Crystal Castles, Bloody Beetroots and peaking with LCD Sound System, Booka Shade DJs and closer MIA, setting herself up to tear the place down in style.

There are 75 odd acts there. All meticulously planned out for maximum fun. Listen to the damn elves and get a Big Day Out ticket on your wish list before it’s too late.
