PRESS RELEASE: Immediate Release

Johnny Depp - Changing the way people smoke

As smoking becomes socially unacceptable in public places around the world, how will Hollywood handle the desire to display characters who do smoke? As the new movie The Tourist demonstrates, it might be as simple as making the cigarettes electronic.

Frank, played by Johnny Depp in the new movie The Tourist is approached by Angelina Jolie's character Elise in a moving train. He sits, waits and puffs on a cigarette. -Incidentally right next to a non smoking sign. As she gets closer he puts it down. There is no ashtray for there is no ash. Frank, like the person who plays him prefers to smoke an electronic cigarette.

Johnny Depp joins a growing number of celebrities such as Leonardo DiCaprio and Katherine Heigl who chose electronic cigarettes instead regular tobacco ones to smoke off screen. With little to no odour, and less chemicals, it's a popular choice for celebrities who can't quite kick the habit.

You can see an example of Depp using the cigarette in The Tourist here:

PGM International, the NZ Company who distribute Elusion electronic cigarettes see a surge of people enquiring about how their product may work for them after celebrities use them in public. Paul Medarov, director of PGM International says, “With movie directors still wanting to use cigarettes as props for their actors, it's good to see them using a tobacco free product such as the electronic cigarette.”
