Queen of the Whole Universe Camps Out in Wellington

Queen of the Whole Universe Camps Out in Wellington

The spectacular stage show Queen of the Whole Universe – A Very Queer Beauty Pageant is back in town on Saturday March 12, following its outrageously successful Wellington debut in 2008. Mayor, Celia Wade-Brown joins the elite judging panel as 40 ‘girls’ from 36 countries and 4 planets battle it out for the highly coveted plastic crown.

Making a splash for its Wellington outing organizers have confirmed six local ‘girls’ to join the multi-talented ensemble which are also the opening act for the highly anticipated 2nd AsiaPacific Outgames on March 12.

QWU® premiered in Auckland on Saturday 18 September 2004. Now in its 8th magnificent year this musical parody on a beauty pageant has donated over $160,000.00 to HIV Charities since its inception and presently holds the Guinness World Record for the largest drag queen stage show.

Hosted by the notorious glamour queens Buffy and Bimbo; the show opens with a song and dance extravaganza featuring all the ‘girls’ decked out in their glory. This theatrical opening is followed by the contestants parading in 'headgear of nations' on the QWU 'cat'walk. The 'girls’ eagerly await the announcement of the special awards: Miss Beauty with a Purpose presented to the girl with the most ‘brains’ and Miss Pins & Needles awarded to the most amazingly crafted headgear followed by the announcement of the semi-finalists who will proceed to the rigors of act two… where the claws are out and the stilettos are sharp!

QWU® is a beauty pageant with a difference where most of the 40 beauties are boys dressed as girls representing countries and other obscure places but all with the same mission, to be crowned QWU® 2011. Sounds like a recipe for disaster with the number of drag queens or is it, Queen of the Whole Universe – a very queer beauty pageant.

Tickets are now on sale through Ticketek.
Be in quick as this sell-out show is a MUST SEE event.
