Smirnoff Night Project Unleashes Kiwi Creativity

Zombies, sharks, public white-outs and remote gigs all form the nucleus of the Smirnoff Night Project, a unique challenge whereby four of New Zealand’s most creative talent have won the chance to stage the event of their dreams with a little help from their friends at Smirnoff.

Last November saw Smirnoff embark on a quest to find New Zealand’s most original, off beat ideas to create four unforgettable events that would culminate in a television series for Four hosted by Elemeno P front man, Dave Gibson.

Today, they are excited to announce the line-up of winners who get to bring their extraordinary event concept to life.

Winners include:

• Amber Cadaver, Zombie Apocalypse - Wellington, weekend 19 February
Guests will arrive as the living but leave as the living dead as they are challenged by zombies. Watch out – you could become one. Survivors will be rewarded with appropriate refreshments at the post Apocalypse party.

• Tom Darlow and Beth O’Brien, Shark Movie at Sea – Auckland, weekend 26 February
This is no ordinary trip to the cinema. You'll be watching a classic shark movie, whilst floating in the sea, with your legs dangling down like meaty morsels. So pull up a rubber ring, and get ready for the scariest movie experience ever!

• Dan Michaeli, Gig in the Middle of Nowhere – Mystery Location, weekend 6 March
A private gig with a top billing name is announced. To get tickets to the concert you must apply online but most importantly you must then find the location which is by no means easily accessible. Satellite navigation will be your friend.

• Robbie Fraser, Paint the Town White – Auckland, weekend 12 March
Imagine an environment that has been painted totally white. Is it a city or is it an art installation? Who knows, but it is going to look amazing. Oh, and by the way leave your good clothes at home because throughout the night, colour WILL be introduced.

Each event allows a certain allocation of guests who must register on the Smirnoff Night Project Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/smirnoffnz for the chance to attend one of these unique events and days after winner announcements, registrations are already flowing in.

New Zealand’s Smirnoff Night Project is part of a global “Be There” campaign which recognises that people don’t want ordinary experiences; they want ordinary lifted to the extraordinary and they want to be there to experience those moments for themselves.

Smirnoff Brand Manager, Philippa Larsen says the innovative nature of the Smirnoff Night Project has made it a great fit for our Kiwi psyche.

“The initiative was designed to promote original thought without too many limitations or restrictions and it has certainly delivered,” says Philippa Larsen, Smirnoff Brand Manager.

“Innovation and creativity are part of our makeup. Giving people the opportunity to create their own one-of-a kind events has really unleashed some mind blowing ideas.”

“The Smirnoff Night Project attracted some powerful entries from people nationwide across a wide range of ages and backgrounds. The common thread was that they were creative, innovative and interesting people who want to break free from the status quo and champion fresh, original thought,” says Larsen.
