Taranaki surfing fans will be able to join some of the stars of the sport in an environmental working bee organised in conjunction with next week’s TSB Bank Women’s Surf Festival.
Click for more information on the Taranaki Tree Trust. ASP Women’s World Tour competitors will be among those rolling up their sleeves on Friday, 29 April, to plant 1600 spinifex and pingao plants to encourage dune restoration at the end of Ahu Ahu Road. The public is also invited to take part, with planting to start at 3.30pm and to be followed by a barbecue.
The plants have been funded by the Taranaki Tree Trust, with assistance from the Honda TreeFund.
“The Women’s Surf Festival is another example of the recreational, economic and cultural importance of the Taranaki coast, and the planting day is a great way for people to do their bit to protect and enhance this fragile environment,” says the Trust Chairman, Michael Joyce.
“We’ve been pleased to work with Surfing Taranaki, Oakura Boardriders, the New Plymouth District Council and the Taranaki Regional Council to organise this event, and we’re sure it will get the support it deserves.” Details:
