Voices NZ Takes Taonga Puoro To Argentina

Voices NZ Takes Taonga Puoro To Argentina

In August, New Zealand’s national chamber choir, Voices New Zealand, takes some of our best choral music to Argentina. Our award-winning choir has been invited to perform at the 9th World Symposium on Choral Music in Puerto Madryn, Argentina.

The symposium is a tremendous opportunity to introduce an international audience to our music. Accordingly, Voices has prepared its main programme, “New Zealand Landscapes,” to feature New Zealand composers and taonga puoro musician Horomona Horo.

The symposium will hear works such as Karanga from the Land, Gareth Farr’s Harakeke, David Hamilton’s Karakia of the Stars, and Eve de Castro Robinson’s Chaos of Delight, as well as one of the choir’s signature pieces, Christopher Marshall’s Minoi Minoi.

The choir is joined by the Toronto Children’s Chorus and by Papakura’s Rosehill College Band in two separate concerts in Buenos Aires, before travelling to Puerto Madryn.

There, Voices will present a lunchtime concert, perform in an evening gala concert and participate in a ‘meet the choirs” session.

Voices NZ’s artistic director, Karen Grylls, will join Horo in leading a presentation, “A Tapestry of Traditions: Voices from the Polynesian Pacific”.

Voices NZ is one of 24 choirs from 20 countries who will take part in performances, conferences, workshops and masterclasses as part of the symposium, held every three years in different locations.
