Day: Today, 25 April 2012
Where: Te Papa Forecourt, Cable Street , Wellington
When: 4.30pm
This Beat Retreat ceremony at Te Papa will be the final ever ANZAC Day performance by the Band of the 7th Wellington (City of Wellington's Own) and Hawke's Bay Battalion. The Band is one of seven reserve force bands due to be disbanded mid-year.
The Beat Retreat has ancient origins from the days of chivalry when beating, or sounding retreat, signaled a halt to the days fighting, a return to camp and the mounting of a guard for the evening. Today, at Te Papa, the full band of the 7th Wellington (City of Wellington's Own) and Hawke's Bay Battalion will deliver spirited marches and anthems of special significance.
The Beat Retreat ceremony will also feature a firing party drawn from the 7th Wellington (City of Wellington's Own) and Hawke's Bay Battalion.
The reviewing officer is the Shadow Minister of Defence, the Hon Iain Lees-Galloway MP.
