Smallman Wins Back To Back Races At Weekend

30 July 2012

Ian Smallman from the SUBWAY® Pro Cycling team won back to back races in Nelson and Christchurch at the weekend.

Smallman beat former Olympic cyclists Robin Reid and Chris Nicholson to win round five of Nelson’s winter series held in the Moutere District on Saturday. He then backed up to win the final round of the PushbikesWinterWorlds series A grade race held in Prebbleton on Sunday.

“I was stoked to win both days,” the Christchurch based cyclist said.

In Nelson Smallman was in a two person break after 40 kilometres of racing that got caught with two kilometres remaining. He broke away again taking Reid with him and then outsprinted the Athens’s Olympian to win the 70 kilometre race in one hour and 40 minutes.

•SUBWAY® Pro Cycling Team was New Zealand’s first professional cycling team, established seven years ago, and is currently the country’s only professional UCI registered team.

•It has been registered as a UCI Continental team since early 2009 with a successful track record of racing in New Zealand, Asia and the United States.
