Te Kura Kaupapa Motuhake O Tawhiuau Winners Rock Quest Final

Manawarere one of two rock bands entered by Te Kura Kaupapa Motuhake o Tawhiuau, Ngati Manawa Murupara in the Waikato/Bay of Plenty Rock Quest Finals held in Hamilton were declared the top Year 7-8 band after capturing the audience with a stunning performance of polish poise and sheer exuberance .Their engagement with the audience belied their inexperience and youth with a trio of eleven year olds in their group of five.

Tutors George Pouwhare and Che August praised the hard work and the dedication of both bands whom they believed had the raw talent and potential to go all the way.

“We got them to believe in themselves and take to the stage with the motto of the Kura on their hearts and minds “Te Ringa ki Te Taumata Tiketike” (strive to excel!) And they delivered! We are all just so proud of them.”

What was even more meritorious about the win is that Te Kura Kaupapa Motuhake o Tawhiuau has a total of just 14 year 7 & 8 pupils and all 14 were involved in the competition.

They were up against Intermediate schools with considerably larger rolls of pupils numbering in the hundreds to select from.

Manawarere’s prize was a $400.00 voucher from the Rock Shop, and a place in the Nationals. Which will be held September 27.
