Weet-Bix Kids Officially Claim Guinness World Record®
for Breakfast Challenge
Weet-Bix has officially claimed the Guinness World Record® for the largest cereal breakfast, doubling the existing world record held in New York.
To show their support for the New Zealand Olympic Team, Weet-Bix held the Breakfast Challenge last month, which saw 648 Kiwi kids and their teachers attempt their own Guinness World Record® for the largest cereal breakfast. Guinness World Records confirmed that the attempt, held on August 7 had been a success.
Pierre van Heerden, General Manager for Sanitarium Health & Wellbeing Company says Sanitarium is thrilled to have the Guinness World Record® officially recognised:
“The Sanitarium Weet-Bix Breakfast Challenge was a great opportunity for the kids involved to achieve a personal best, just like the New Zealand athletes they were supporting, I’m sure the kids will be very excited to hear that they have officially broken the world record for New Zealand.”
The Breakfast Challenge saw participants eating their way to victory, with more than 300 boxes of Weet-Bix and 400 litres of Meadow Fresh Milk consumed throughout the event.

• 648 Kiwi kids
and helpers from 15 schools participated in the Guinness
World Record attempt for the Largest Cereal Breakfast.
• Double Olympic Gold medallist Danyon Loader,
Olympic Gold Medallist Rob Waddell, Youth Olympic medallist
and 2016 Olympic hopeful Maddie Dillon, 2008 Olympian Moss
Burmester and Nikki Kaye, MP for Central Auckland were at
the event cheering on the children and Olympic athletes.
• 420 kilos of Weet-Bix were brought in for
the event
• 400 litres of Meadow Fresh Milk
were on hand for the breakfasts
• More than 100
event staff were on-site
Weet-Bix, the official breakfast of the New Zealand Olympic team, has fuelled generations of Kiwi kids for over 80 years and more than 240,000 kids have taken part in the Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon including Olympians Alison Shanks, Andrea Hewitt and Sarah Walker.
