New Zealanders Not Shy of Pillow Talk

New Zealanders Not Shy of Pillow Talk

New Zealand adult toy retailer, Adulttoymegastore.co.nz, has unlocked the bedroom doors of over 1500 honest New Zealanders to publish some revealing findings about our sexual experiences. Results from their annual Mega Kiwi Sex Survey suggests that New Zealanders are communicative bunch when it comes to their carnal desires, sharing their personal experiences, thoughts, feelings and fantasies in the research.

This honesty may be born in our relationships with a healthy 71.5% of respondents indicating they are openly discuss sex with their partner. And Gisborne is the region most loquacious about lovemaking, with 94.4% of respondents from the area happily trading intimate details with their partners.

The forum for coitus chat needn’t be face-to-face with 44.7% of New Zealanders admitting to using their phone to talk or text with their partner in a sexy manner. One can only hope we’re all being imaginative with emoticons. As well as mobile technology, we’re also allowing the internet to feature in our love lives. Data plans in Whanganui in particular are taking a hit with a convincing 90% of respondents from that region, more than any other, watching online pornography with their partners.

Not only are we employing technology in our sex lives, but we also exceed global averages when it comes to other sexual enhancement products. According to international research by Durex, worldwide vibrator usage is about 21%, a statistic thoroughly eclipsed by the 70% of respondents from this survey who engage in their use.

As an outdoorsy nation, it seems we not only tramp in our lush landscapes. It may be best to keep your eyes on the road if you're driving through Queenstown this summer as 80% of respondents from the region revealed that they've had sex outdoors. And chances are if it’s low tide at Midway beach you may see some couples bobbing in the distance with 91% of respondents from the East Cape confessing to having had sex in water.

The survey didn’t shy away from the most intimate of subjects, with data about our attitudes to anal sex also published. 61% of respondents disclosed it to be an act they had tried, while only 15% are doing so regularly. Compared to the national average, Nelson is our most enthusiastic region, with 33% identifying themselves as regular participants. A marked gender difference was uncovered amongst those who had not tried anal sex, with 53% of men and only 15% of women expressing an interest in trying it.

These results are the final in the series from the Adulttoymegstore.co.nz Mega Kiwi Sex Survey to be released this year. Adulttoymegastore.co.nz Marketing Manager, Catherine Fitzgerald, says the survey will be an annual event, “Our goal is to build a detailed picture of New Zealander’s sexual identities, habits, attitudes and behaviours that we can all learn from.”
