Rhythm Stage Audio

- Media release -

Rhythm Stage Audio

The first night of 2012’s Rhythm and Vines festival was an amazing night of music and fun. However, there were undeniable issues with the quality of sound on the Rhythm Stage in the main arena that we would like to address for our loyal audience.

The truck crash in Waioeka Gorge the day before the festival was widely reported, and we were very pleased at the time that the driver was unharmed and the gear at first appeared to have sustained only minimal damage. On closer inspection once on site, the audio equipment was much more seriously impacted by the crash.

We worked with the best sound engineers in the country to put together a new replacement system, which was built in a day and was still being tuned right up to the point of the gates opening.

Rhythm and Vines would like to apologise to those patrons in the main arena who experienced a lesser quality in sound than we would typically deliver. We pride ourselves on our production, but this crash was obviously unexpected. To plan and prepare a system of the caliber needed for an audience or the size of R&V requires days of meticulous work, not hours. Availability of equipment over New Years Eve is also very limited.

We were also very happy to have the understanding and support of our artists, such as Netsky and Knife Party, who shone through even in trying conditions.

We’d like to assure everyone that that work is currently in progress to bring in more gear and keep reconfiguring stages to meet the demands of acts on nights two and three.

The hard work and professionalism of our production team in pulling the stage together in time for opening night was extraordinary feat. R&V’s head system technician, Kevin Bennett, worked tirelessly to configure the system to maximise the performance. He was unhappy with the result and worked constantly throughout the evening to improve the quality. This morning he says he believes he has a solution that will considerably enhance the quality of the sound, in particular the bass.

The whole R&V team is looking forward to bringing another big night of the world’s best music to the amazing Waiohika crowd tonight.
