Lisa Simpson’s Voice to Be Heard At Armageddon Expo

Press Release
Tuesday 30th April, 2013

Lisa Simpson’s Voice to Be Heard At Armageddon Expo This Year

The voice of Lisa Simpson, Yeardley Smith, is set to entertain fans alongside a fantastic spread of fantasy, fiction and sci-fi stars at Armageddon Expos this winter.

Armageddon is returning again to Hamilton’s Claudeland’s Event Centre on the 25th - 26th of May and to a new venue in Wellington at Westpac Stadium on the 1st – 3rd of June.

Armageddon organiser William Geradts says it’s a New Zealand first to have Smith, a member of The Simpsons cast, at the expo and she has generated a lot of interest.

“Everyone in New Zealand has seen The Simpsons and everyone knows who Lisa Simpson is. The show is one of the greatest television series of all time so we’re expecting a huge turnout,” says Geradts.

Smith has voiced Lisa Simpson, the Buddhist and vegetarian member of the dysfunctional American family, for 26 years since the show’s inception in 1987 on the Tracey Ullman Show.

Alongside Smith, a host of other celebrities will be meeting and greeting fans throughout both weekends.

Among them include X-Files cast member Mitch Pileggi, who played Walter Skinner in the series, Colonel Steven Caldwell in Stargate Atlantis and Samuel Campbell in Supernatural.

Movie and TV star Eric Roberts who recently starred in The Dark Knight and The Expendables will also be attending the expos for the first time.

Ten out of the 13 dwarves from Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit will be making an appearance at Wellington’s Armageddon on Sunday 2nd May.

Geradts says that with the special guest appearance from the dwarves coupled with the move to the new venue, it will be the capital’s biggest Armageddon in the expo's 12 year history.

“After out-growing the TSB Arena, we've moved to Westpac Stadium and are running a longer three day show to accommodate the crowds we expect,” he says.

Other celebrity guests include Tony Amendola from Once Upon a Time, Joe Flanigan from Stargate Atlantis, Meagan Smith, voice of Gwen Tennyson from Ben 10 and Doctor Who and The Hobbit star Sylvester McCoy.

Anime and manga fans will be lining up to meet Janet Varney, the voice-over star of Avatar: The Legend of Korra and Christopher Smith of Monsuno, Skyrim and Lego Batman fame.

Comic book buffs will be thrilled at the opportunity to meet Gail Simone, the writer of Batgirl, Red Sonja, Birds of Prey and Wonder Woman as well as the artist from MAD and Bongo comics Dean Rankine.

Rankine will also be available to draw caricatures of punters ‘Simpson’ style or stick their head in a jar, a la Futurama.

Both weekends will be a melting pot of Cosplay, collectibles, competitions and so much more, making two extremely exciting events for fantasy, gaming and comic book lovers.

“We always get a very positive response nationally and internationally and we’re really looking forward to putting on the expo again this year,” says Geradts.
