The Race for the Billy & the Fred Award is on...

With the 21st NZ International Comedy Festival in its final days, the 2013 Billy T Award Nominees & The FRED Award finalists have just days to impress audiences and judges with their solo shows before final judging at Last Laughs this Sun 19 May at SKYCITY Theatre.

Just announced… The FRED Award nominees for this year’s best show by a New Zealand comedian have been decided by the industry panel. The 2013 finalists are; James Nokise, Jarred Christmas and Nick Rado.

James Nokise finished his run last week with sell-out seasons in Auckland and Wellington, but you can still see Jarred Christmas & Nick Rado in Auckland. See Nick Rado in ‘The Funniest Joke in The World’ at Vault at Q Theatre, 7.15pm on Fri 17 & Sat 18 May; and Jarred Christmas in ‘Let’s Go Mofo’, Loft at Q Theatre, Fri 17 & Sat 18 May at 8.45pm. Tickets for both shows are available from comedyfestival.co.nz.

Named in honour of ex-pat comedy icon John Clarke’s legendary Kiwi character Fred Dagg, The FRED Award winner for 2013 will receive the renowned golden gumboot and $10,000 prize package including; a a cash grant of $2500 and advertising campaigns with More FM and The Dominion Post.

The winner of the 2013 Billy T Award will take home the prestigious Yellow Towel, a $3500 cash grant from the New Zealand Comedy Trust, a spot on TV3's 7 Days, Huffer clothing and an advertising campaign on The Rock FM. Selected on their proven comedic ability; talent; dedication; current form and potential, they will be judged on all aspects of their 2013 NZ International Comedy Festival show.
