World Record Price Reached For Arthur Dagley Artwork

A World Record Price Was Reached Last Night For an Arthur Dagley Artwork

$12,300 was paid for the Port Tryptich (acrylic and wood, three panels) by an absentee bidder, who is an internationally-based Kiwi.

The one-off estate auction of 101 works held last night at Tauranga's Baycourt was organised by Fine Art Society of New Zealand on behalf of the artist’s estate.

Overall sales for the night totalled $152,000.

Fine Art Society director Grant Bezett says only seven works were passed in but most of those were now under negotation.

"This show will be a sell-out, which is extraordinary for an art auction - usually an 80 percent sell rate is a big success.  It just shows how much Arthur Dagley was loved in Tauranga.

"Arthur's family were so proud, it was a very emotional night for them. They were over the moon that so many people loved his works," says Bezett

The room, which seated 200 was full, with at least 50 absentee bids, however only four of these were successful.

"The room dominated the auction, it was a dynamic evening," says Bezett.
