Kapiti Once Again Proves Its Place In Nz’s Culinary Scene

Kapiti Once Again Proves Its Place In Nz’s Culinary Scene – this time with French flaire

Produce used in many top New Zealand restaurants will be presented to 200 guests at the fourth Kapiti Vintage event, 17 August held at an amazing venue in Otaki.

Part of Visa Wellington on a Plate festival, the flavours and traditions of France will be served in a five course long lunch using the very best local ingredients including celebrated Waikanae Crab, duck confit, as well as chef Simon Wislang’s unique ginger brulee receipe.

Guests arrive from Wellington on a vintage stream train and stroll over to the historical Otaki Milk Factory for a long lunch. Before they return home on the train they will be able to purchase the local ingredients at another event, the Otaki Station Market – a new event put on by the organisers. Along with the Kapiti Vintage guests, up to 200 ‘day trippers’ will also come from Wellington on the steam train to attend the market and spend the afternoon shopping at the outlet shops. Locals and people from the Kapiti Horowhenua regions will also be welcome to come to the market.

Event organiser Graeme Harris says “Kapiti Vintage’s philosophy is based on taking a journey back to an era where life was less rushed, people more relaxed and fine cuisine was an integral part of a wonderful, long unhurried social occasion. “

The Kapiti region has a reputation as a diverse and high quality food and wine producing area with exceptional local artisan producers. The Kapiti Vintage events, which includes the Foodie Family Steam Excursion, the Otaki Station Market Day Tripper and the Kapiti Vintage lunch, aims to promote this reputation to the wider Wellington region and beyond.
