Andre Hemer exhibition opening next Wednesday

ANDRE HEMER
Stack Overflow
23 October - 16 November 2013

Bartley + Company Art is very pleased to present Andre Hemer’s fourth solo exhibition in the gallery. Working within an ever-evolving field of investigation, Hemer is constantly inventive in his exploration of how the ancient art of painting speaks to and engages with the current moment.

His painting, as he has said, “embraces the digital as the underlying condition of our time - and yet it is not explicitly about the digital.” Rather, it draws our attention to construction of contemporary visual imagery and offers a new kind of representation - “one that explores painting moving freely between states of digital representation and painted object”.

Currently undertaking his PhD at the University of Sydney, Hemer was recently shortlisted for the forthcoming Thames & Hudson publication 100 Painters of Tomorrow, due out early next year. His work, seen as being at the forefront of issues being explored internationally by painters, attracted a good level of attention on our stand at Sydney Contemporary last month. Since completing his Master of Fine Arts in 2006, Hemer has worked full time as an artist, winning numerous residencies and awards and exhibiting throughout New Zealand and in Australia, Korea, Taiwan Germany and the UK.

Last days to see Good Grief exhibition by Lonnie Hutchinson and
Sofia Tekela-Smith.

Ending this Saturday 19 October.
