[SPOILER ALERT!] Timon is a kind and generous Athenian lord, with many friends on whom he lavishes extravagant and frequent gifts. However, the day comes when he falls into debt and discovers that all of his “friends” are no longer there for him. Enraged about the fickleness of human nature, he leaves Athens and retreats to a cave. He turns against his former city and begins bribing soldiers and pirates to attack Athens, his anger at his friends turning to revenge against the entire city.

Timon Of Athens showcases the glitz and glamour of a wealthy, extravagant life sharply contrasted against the consequences of debt and the realities of false friends. It is a study of greed and the human condition, a look into a life turned around.
