For ten years, we've been hosting the Wairoa Maori Film Festival in Wairoa and Nuhaka, and this year we're having a big birthday! We want you to help us on this boosted campaign, to get young emerging Maori film makers - with no money! - down to the festival this year. To bring together our kaumatua of the Maori film industry, our artists who have been working behind the scenes for the past 40 years to make the dream a reality for art, for film, for writing, for Maori storytelling in Aotearoa New Zealand!

We hope you can join us in this fundraising campaign!

Wairoa Maori Film Festival is celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2015! We already have plans in place for a really special weekend of films and workshops at our Kahungunu Marae in Nuhaka, and the local Council's come on board to support us with a huge gala dinner at the reopening of the Gaiety Cinema in Wairoa.

But this is our 10th year and we want to host a day of deep reflection on the past, present and future of Maori film making, a 10th anniversary gathering - a film hui - in our marae on Saturday May 30th. We need your help to get everyone there - we're hiring a bus from Auckland, picking up artists and film makers along the way in Hamilton, Rotorua and Napier, and flying in kaumatua of the film industry from across the country. We need our people to "boost" this year into something really special!

This is an amazing moment in time - 10 years since the first Maori film festival in Wairoa, and 40 years since the first Maori artists and writers gathering in Wairoa!

The second ever Maori artists and writers gathering occurred at Takitimu Marae, Wairoa, way back in 1975! So this is not only the 10th anniversary of the Wairoa Maori Film Festival, it is the 40th anniversary of the Wairoa Maori Writers and Artists Conference! Help us bring some of the luminaries from back in 1975 to a very, very special gathering. Join us as we reflect on a grand decade of Maori film achievement. We hope you can help!

We are looking to raise $5,000 on Boosted to help pay for our bus booked from Auckland, and to pay for flights for kaumatua of the Maori film industry, flying in from as far south as Invercargill and as far north as Hokianga! Your contribution will help out on something truly special for Maori and for all Kiwis. We hope you can help!
