The Revbox takes Gina Crawford’s training to the next level

The Revbox takes Gina Crawford’s training to the next level
24 February 2016

Top ironman athlete Gina Crawford has no hesitation to say the Revbox Erg is the best stationary trainer she has used, stressing it has taken her training to the ‘next level.’

The multiple ironman champion started using the Revbox last month saying she quickly felt the training benefits as she really needed to activate her hamstrings more and could feel she had to work her lower abs and glutes to help her stabilise on the bike while using the Revbox.

“From the first time I jumped on the Revbox for a big gear interval set, it was amazing,” she said. “I had a pretty decent trainer which I was pretty happy with the Revbox really does take it to the next level. It is a low inertia trainer, which means that unlike other trainers which give you some assistance in your pedal stroke, the Revbox does not so you have to work in every part of the pedal stroke.”

Gina says that through listening to the Revbox she can hear if any part of her pedal stroke is weak and can the make the necessary adjustments. “Even just sitting on it for a short time I felt I was working harder to stabilise my pelvis and I could really feel my weaker hamstrings really starting to do some work. The Revbox will be a core part of my cycling programme, specifically targeting some weak points of my cycling which I am sure will make a huge difference to my racing.”

Gina also says the Revbox is perfect for specific strength work outs, saving her time and effort. “Being low inertia I can warm up quickly and then get straight into the really beneficial part of a workout,” she said. “I can dictate exactly what I need so I am then able to train efficiently, wasting no time biking to the hill I need and running out of time for my main training set.”

She stresses that age group athletes who are ‘time poor’ and can often only fit an hour in for a bike session during the week can get a very specific and targeted sessions completed using a Revbox which will prove very beneficial.

“If you are a complete cycling novice then the Revbox is also perfect,” she says. ”The Revbox can change the way you pedal.” Gina says she can feel it when she goes out on the road, feeling more stable in the core and more efficient in her pedalling stroke, adding she is having to undo ‘years of bad habits.’

Gina plans to use the Revbox year round for her specific training efforts, where in the past she mainly used her stationary trainer for bike sessions during the colder winter months.

After already feeling the benefits of the Revbox Erg Gina is the latest athlete to join Revbox New Zealand as a brand ambassador.

“The Revbox will definitely be part of my year round training as in so many cases I see it being more valuable than being out on the road and I don't have to worry about the traffic as well. Even in the heat of summer sitting on the Revbox is comfortable because you get a nice breeze blowing into your legs. It is not the horrible sweaty session that it was with my other trainer.”
