Tickets go on sale for New Zealand’s most dazzling night of opera:
Lexus Song Quest 2016
On the back of a full house for Aotearoa’s favourite soprano, Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, performing at the New Zealand Festival on Sunday, tickets for Aotearoa’s premier opera evening, the Lexus Song Quest, are now on sale.
Dame Kiri remains the Lexus Song Quest’s most celebrated winner in its 60 year history, and her Foundation has generously supported the development of many young singers over the years, not least through Lexus Song Quest itself. Official supporters of the Song Quest include Dame Malvina Major Foundation, Creative NZ, Wellington City Council and chief sponsor, Lexus.
“Lexus strives for excellence and possesses a unique luxury stemmed from performance and craft and I’m certain this year’s aspiring Kiwi opera singers will exhibit similar attributes,” said Andrew Davis, the General Manager of Marketing of Lexus New Zealand. “We are proud to support and acknowledge their efforts again this year.”
New Zealand’s newest consignment of talented opera singers are currently preparing for the challenging competition which will culminate in New Zealand’s most glittering night of opera, when the final four contestants will each perform at the Grand Final Gala at Auckland Town Hall on Saturday 23 July.
The judging panel for Lexus Song Quest will be led by Head International Judge and eminent soprano Yvonne Kenny. Kenny is a Member of the Order of Australia for her services to music and a Professor of Voice at London’s Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
Working with Yvonne will be two preliminary judges, Patricia Price and Graham Pushee. British-born Patricia Price has held roles at the University of Sydney’s National Voice Centre, and as the Head of Vocal Studies and Opera at the Western Australia Academy of Performing Arts. Australian counter-tenor, Graham Pushee, is a regular on opera stages across Europe, USA and Australia.
