FESTA needs the means for its headline event

FESTA needs the means for its headline event: reusable materials!

FESTA, the vibrant Labour Weekend celebration of urban creativity, is calling out to the public for resources – reusable materials - to help create its headline extravaganza, Lean Means – a night of colour, lights and buzz.

Architecture students from Auckland’s Unitec are looking to gather waste materials that they will transform into imaginative installations for the spectacular temporary city Lean Means, which is live for one night only on Saturday 22 October.

Team Lustrous is using 2400 recycled light bulbs to fabricate a bike-generated, people-powered installation. They have been collecting old bulbs from electricians in Auckland, but need more bulbs to create this beautiful temporary architecture for Christchurch. Team Ribbon are looking for two-litre bottles, which they will upcycle by cutting into string - a more versatile material than the object's original function - to create their large-scale structure.

Both teams will collect these materials upon arrival in Christchurch the week before Labour Weekend and ask anyone who has these materials to hold on to them and contact info@festa.org.nz to organize collection.

Lean Means creatively explores the sustainable ways we could regenerate our city with a night of colour, light and people. It will be packed with art, events, music, performance, markets, pop-up food vendors, kids activities and more. It is the big extravaganza of this year's three-day festival themed We Have the Means, which is about making the most of the resources we have available to us - in terms of people and materials.
