Sistas Turn Up the Sass Centre Stage for a Provocative Show

Media Release: for immediate release

SISTAS TURN UP THE SASS CENTRE STAGE FOR A PROVOCATIVE SHOW INFUSED WITH HIP HOP POLITICS AND TOTAL EMPOWERMENT!

Auckland Live presents
HOT BROWN HONEY
A Briefs Factory Production

Hot Brown Honey turns up the heat, delivering lashings of sass and a hot pinch of
empowerment for a smash-hit extravaganza that takes over the ASB Theatre Stage from Tuesday 14 to Saturday 18 February, 2016. This NZ premiere is part of Auckland Pridefollowing sell out seasons across Australia including the Sydney Opera house, and a smokin’ season in Edinburgh Fringe.

The Honeys will make audiences laugh until they cry, clap their hands until they bleed and shake every part of what their mama gave them. With set, lighting, music and costumes to rival Beyoncé at Madison Square Garden, this is political theatre like NZ audiences have never seen before.

Ambitious production house Briefs Factory (responsible for the boylesque cabaret ‘Briefs’) have leveled the gender playing fields and are bringing Hot Brown Honey to New Zealand for the very first time.

This stellar posse of six phenomenal Australian women of Global First Nations Heritage including Maori, Samoan, Tongan, Indigenous Australian, South African and Indonesian defiantly smash stereotypes, remix the system and dare to celebrate our similarities and differences in an explosion of colour, culture and controversy. Hot Brown Honey make noise with their fierceness while taking on colonialism, sexism, gender stereotypes and racism.
