Ground-breaking English-language learning drama

Kiwi production company set to release ground-breaking English-language learning drama

An award-winning Kiwi filmmaking team are attacking a gap in the worldwide English language-learning market with the production ofFortune, a drama series created specifically for English language teachers and learners.

Fortune is a six-part drama series filmed in New Zealand, which combines a thrilling storyline with cutting-edge English language learning tools.
Viewers are able to choose their level of language-learning proficiency (English as a second language or English as a foreign language), designed by highly qualified TESOL education professionals with extensive knowledge of the language learning landscape.

The project is the brainchild of Scott Granville and Ben Woollen of Chasing Time Productions, an award-winning, boutique production company based in Hamilton and Wellington, New Zealand.

“We are hugely excited to be bringing several years of planning to the market,” said Granville. “Based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, we have designed an engaging and dramatic viewing experience that uses live-action narrative supported by comprehensive and purposeful learning materials. There is nothing like this out there on the market at the moment.”

To provide supporters with a detailed outline of the concept, and to offer pre-orders and rewards on the first season, the project this week launched a campaign on crowdfunding platform KICKSTARTER

“We have enlisted an experienced and talented cast and crew, bringing together a diverse group of people from a number of countries around the world,” said Woollen. “Fortune is going to push the boundaries of how we view and deliver language learning using quality drama as the focus.”

Production will take place in and around the Waikato region of New Zealand, utilising the unique and stunning natural beauty of the region. “One of the principal goals for Fortune has always been to showcase our local area. We look forward to welcoming a global audience to one of the most beautiful backyards you are likely to find,” said Granville.

Fortune is expected to be the first season of an ongoing catalogue of drama series for adult learners. Chasing Time Productions are currently in advanced development for future seasons targeted at children and young adults.
