Chips at Godzone for Richie McCaw
Ex-All Black captain Richie McCaw is getting
stuck into a real adventure at the GODZone adventure race in
Fiordland and enjoying some snack treats along the way.
McCaw and his fellow team members Sarah Fairmaid, Rob Nichol and Bob McLachlan have travelled an impressive 500km over the last six days through Southland and Fiordland with just 40km to go. The team are currently tracking in the sixth position.
“Richie and the team are having a very solid race travelling with the top ten teams from the very start. They looked tired but very focused going into the last trekking stage over the Kepler Mountains last night,” says GODZone Event Director Warren Bates.
“Our crew caught up with them at a remote hut in the Freeman Burn that is located in the far northern arm of Lake Manapouri. They were looking forward to trekking up towards Lake Herries and down over to Dinghy Cove on Lake Te Anau,” says Bates.
The team spent time inside the hut taking some rest and food including packets of potato chips. Richie McCaw was particularly excited by snacks.
“These are so bad for you but they taste so good at the moment,” said McCaw.
Team PwC is expected to arrive at the Te Anau finish line today around 6 pm.

GODZone is one of the most technically challenging
expeditions in the world with teams racing for up to ten
days – night and day - navigating through 400 – 550km of
unknown terrain. Each team of four must stay within 100
meters of each other at all times as they kayak, mountain
bike, trek, raft and climb across some of New Zealand’s
most iconic landscapes.
