New podcast series explores the age of super fads

Today Stuff launched its latest foray into podcasting, SUPERFAD, researched, written and presented by two of Stuff’s most accomplished reporters, Katie Kenny and Laura Walters.

Whether you’re an early adopter or tend to scratch your head at social trends, SUPERFAD will bring you up to speed as Kenny and Walters try out trends first-hand, cinching themselves into waist trainers, cramming into a tiny house, and taking binge-watching to extremes.

The tone is entertaining and there are plenty of LOLs, but it’s also revealing. What does the waist training phenomenon say about modern attitudes to the female image? How does binge-watching TV affect family life? Is “mindfulness” more myth than miracle?

Stuff’s Editorial Director Mark Stevens says, “This is a podcast from two of Stuff’s best and brightest talents. They’re the perfect pair to explore these fads and give our audience their uniquely enlightening and entertaining take on them.”

Kenny is a National Correspondent for Stuff, covering ‘futurism’ and the impact of changing technology on society. Walters is a Political Reporter with Stuff’s press gallery team at Parliament. They have previously reported on mental health - including last year’s Through the Maze project - the housing crisis, sex education, and youth suicide.

SUPERFAD is a seven-part series, with a 20-minute episode exploring a different trend released each Friday morning on iTunes, Stitcher and Spotify.

This is the second podcast series from Stuff, following last year’s Black Hands, an investigation into David Bain which topped charts in New Zealand, Australia, the UK and Ireland.
