A wrap of the action from Round 3 of the 2018 SAS Fox Memorial Premiership.

Northcote 12 Glenora 34
Glenora made it back-to-back wins, with a comprehensive 34-12 victory over the Northcote Tigers on the road. On the wing, off-season recruit Simon Laufalealo scored twice for the Bears, who also had prop Chase Bernard play 80 minutes in the middle of the park. The loss leaves the Tigers with a one-win, two-loss record heading into Round 4.

Howick 52 Mangere East 34
The Howick Hornets fought off a spirited second-half comeback to continue their unbeaten start to 2018. The Hornets were on fire through the opening 40, scoring seven tries to lead 42-6 at the break, before Mangere East gave them a scare with a flurry of second-stanza tries, which saw the gap lowered to 20 points at one stage. Both Drew Radich and Anthony Fuimaono grabbed doubles for the Hornets.

Papakura 10 Pt Chevalier 11
The Pt Chevalier Pirates required a late field goal to get the two points, squeezing past a dogged Papakura side 11-10. Ahead at the break, Pt Chevalier found themselves locked up as the dying exchanges approached, at which point former New Zealand Warriors reserve player Tevin Arona nailed a winning one-pointer for the second time in three games this year, maintaining his side’s unbeaten start to the season.

Richmond 12 Otahuhu 30
Otahuhu picked up their second victory of the season, this time at the expense of the Richmond Bulldogs who remain without a win in 2018. In control at half-time at Grey Lynn Park, the Leopards finished well, benefitting from a strong showing by young prop Connor-Taurua-Purcell in the front row.

Marist 20 Mt Albert 28
A spirited second half wasn’t enough to lift Marist to their first win of the year, with Mt Albert holding on to claim an eight-point victory despite being outscored 14-6 in the second period. Winger Cortez Taulu grabbed a double for the Lions, while Rory Ropati was strong in the engine room.
